Abstract: The current study on mental disorder aims to identify the social representations of mentally disordered patients hospitalized, approaching aspects of the social contact with the family, the professionals from the hospital and other social groups. It is a qualitative research, in which a semi-structured interview was used as theoretical-methodological procedures and the projective technique of Thematic-Drawing-and-Story Procedure. The analysis of the proportion was used to work out the data, allowing to identify the social representations. From the social representations identified it was apprehended that its life trajectories are marked for the intimacy with the stigma, the prejudice and the exclusion. Thus, the present information in this investigation constitutes valuable knowledge for the professional practices in mental health, being taken into account the representations and expectations of the social subjects.
