The aim of the present study was to investigate the ways boys from popular groups represent their families. For this purpose, a qualitative study was conducted, using the Drawing-of-Family-and-Story Procedure. Six boys aged from eight to twelve incomplete years participated in the study. Data was assessed through content analysis. Results showed that boys have an internal perception of an idealized family that does not correspond to the real one. The figure of the mother received a greater investment when compared to the other members of the family. On the other hand, the father was not emphasized, and was approached in the same way as the other family members, pointing out his fragile position. Some members of the extended family were also present, indicating the importance of these people regarding the organization and functioning of families of popular groups.
