Objective: The research aimed to understand the emotions and affections that arose in children hospitalized in the pre-operative period in a children’s hospital in the hinterland of Paraíba, knowing how psychological interventions are carried out from the perspective of the patient, the companions and psychologists, from a qualitative exploratory study. . Methods: For this purpose, in-depth/semi-structured interviews and the technique of Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure were used. The present research involved the participation of 19 subjects, 08 children and 08 companions, who were faced with the hospitalization situation and 3 psychology professionals. For a more accurate analysis of the data collected through the interviews, the speech analysis procedure was used, aiming to critically analyze the documents obtained, in which it was possible to interpret them in a more complex and in-depth way in line with the interpretation of Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure. Results: The results showed that the most frequent feelings in patients and companions in the pediatric preoperative period are fear, anxiety, stress and emotional instability, in addition to physical and psychological tiredness. Conclusions: Regarding psychological interventions carried out in this context, they were classified as embracement, psychological support and psychoeducation.
