Abstract: This communication aimed to reflect on the findings of a qualitative study that focused on the accidental death of an adolescent, which was preceded by a period of approximately three months in a coma, highlighting the emotional repercussions among peers. It is justified by the fact that adolescent deaths from external causes (such as accidents and homicides) constitute a public health issue and take on particular characteristics when they occur in contexts of social precariousness. These deaths correspond to complex and multifaceted phenomena that generate effects not only on families, schools, institutions, and society, but also on the close social group. We observed that, through the use of the Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure [D-E (T)] in a group interview, this type of loss tends to be interpreted as evidence that reinforces beliefs in the impossibility of a favorable and hopeful future.
