Abstract: Many onco-hematological diagnoses do not have a defined etiology, intriguing patients regarding the disease itself and its treatment, and making it difficult for them to understand their own illness process. Objective: This article is part of a master’s degree research which had the objective to establish relationships of perception and personal meaning of the hematological illness based on the symbolic-illustrative representation produced by the patient. It was characterized as a cross-sectional, exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The data analysis was grounded in the theoretical framework of analytical psychology. Method: Ten young adults with hematological diagnoses, undergoing clinical follow-up in the city of Curitiba/PR, were selected. They were interviewed and invited to illustrate a representation of the illness, following the Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure [D-E (T)]. Results: Difficulties were observed in integrating conscious and unconscious aspects, as well as stagnation and polarization of the libido in the re-signification of  past experiences, and in the expression and representation of the illness, both graphically and verbally. Conclusion: The work, centered on symbolic analysis and combined with the individual’s narrative, strengthens the construction of personal meaning and may contribute to a better understanding of the illness experience.
