Abstract: This research aims to psychoanalytically investigate the collective imaginary of psychiatric nursing technicians regarding the psychiatric patient. The study is justified by the fact that care practices occur through very close interactions, which undoubtedly evoke affective-emotional mobilizations in workers. To this end, a group interview was conducted with three professionals from the same team in a psychiatric institution, centered around a mediating-dialogic tool, the Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure [D-E (T)], with the theme “a psychiatric patient”. The set of drawing–stories was analyzed through the psychoanalytic method, enabling the interpretive creation/identification of two affective-emotional meaning fields: “Who is the truly mad one?” and “Everyone can go mad”. The overall picture indicates that, paradoxically, the collective sustains both a discriminatory and an inclusive imaginary. We observed the need for interventions targeting this social group, aiming at transforming conservative and prejudiced imaginaries.
